Building a Solution from Scratch

We begin this tutorial by creating our first solution from scratch. A solution is a collection of related apps which serve a communal purpose. In our example, we label our solution as well as choose some cosmetic upgrades, like an icon and color option.

Building our first App

Each solution is comprised of one or more application, or app. An app is effectively a list of related things. Our first app is a shopping list, where we notate all the things we want to buy.

Adding Fields to our App

As our list grows, we need to include additional information about the things we are adding. In our example, we might want to include a quantity for each thing on our shopping list. We complete this by adding new fields, or columns, inside our app that store the data we want to add.

Building another App

Now we start getting into the true power of SmartSuite by adding a new app inside our solution. This new app will be the various stores that relate to our shopping list. Each store that we add to our list will have multiple points of data as well, so we can also add new fields to our second app.

Linking Related Apps

Our list of shopping items relates directly to the stores where we will find these items, so we now build a linked relationship between our two apps. With this linked field, we now connect these two lists and pass information between the two lists with ease!

Creating Views for our Apps

Lastly, we may want to cultivate the information we see on our lists. Maybe we want to give our lists a specific order, or perhaps we want to hide information from view. For this, we create Views inside our apps that allow us to alter the way our lists are presenting. Note that views won't alter the underlying data in our apps, they only change the cosmetic ways that the data is presented!
